The Dance
Masters of Mid-America More Chapter Activities
Fall
Convention:
In
November, DMMA sponsors a full day of
master classes for area teachers and students. Featuring three
master teachers from throughout the United States, DMMA's classes
bring the latest steps, techniques, and dance styles to five different
levels of dancers and teachers.
Workshops:
Throughout the year DMMA sponsors full and half-day
workshops with nationally recognized guest teachers. Recent workshops
have featured Kathi Halbert, Ron Oertley, Tom Ralabate, and Tommy
Retter.
Monthly
Chapter Programs, Networking, and Meetings:
DMMA
has eight meetings for chapter members.
Recent programs have included: editing music on a mini-disc
recorder, and on a computer, software for dance studio management,
theatrical lighting, copyright laws, insurance, stress reduction,
first aid, care of hardwood floors, a healthy diet for stressed
professionals, relaxation techniques, and advice from a CPA on tax
changes. Chapter meetings then feature "lunch and -
networking," an opportunity for members to share business
strategies and teaching tips. Meetings end with a discussion of plans
for the upcoming months.
Annual
Meeting: In
August of each year we hold a one-day meeting at which each officer
and committee chair presents a report. We brainstorm ideas for the
coming year and experience the camaraderie of our DMMA friends.
Scholarship
Auditions and Pageants: During our fall
convention
weekend,
we hold Scholarship
Audition classes for students aged 14 to 25 in
ballet, tap, and jazz. We also hold our Miss Dance/Miss Teen
Pageant, a competition open to the public on Saturday evening.
Chapter winners compete in the National Miss Dance and Miss
Teen pageants held in July at the National DMA Convention.
